Novian Junus
Novian Junus is a principal in the Life Insurance Consulting Practice in the Seattle office of Milliman. Novian currently focuses on advising clients, conducting business development, and managing the practice with three other partners. He joined the firm in April 2000.
Experience
Novian has more than 30 years in the insurance industry in the U.S. and globally. He has held senior management positions as chief actuary and chief product actuary at ReliaStar’s annuity division and led product development for the retail annuity division of Providian’s accumulation and investment group. As a consultant, he has served as the interim chief actuary for three of his large U.S. clients, using his expertise in managing complex organizations and businesses.
Novian has also served as an appointed actuary for clients in the U.S. and Bermuda. In Bermuda, Novian was the Approved Actuary for Sony Aegon Re (SA Re) from 2009 through 2020, dating from the company’s inception to its dissolution by the sale of the joint venture to Sony. Novian is actively assisting insurance companies in managing complex business and product issues, such as variable annuities with guarantees, universal life insurance with and without secondary guarantees, and retirement and income annuities.
Novian has consulted globally and has experience managing businesses under various accounting and regulatory regimes, including Solvency II, SST, US GAAP, IFRS, and U.S. Statutory. He has consulted with clients on risk mitigation and return optimization strategies, on inforce books of variable annuities with guarantees, and universal life with and without secondary guarantees. Novian’s extensive global experience in product design, pricing, financial analysis, reporting, and risk management serves him well as he advises clients on various aspects of business management.
