Erik Goodhart
Erik Goodhart is an actuary with the Hartford, Connecticut office of Milliman. Originally hired by Milliman in 1995, he rejoined the firm in February 2012 after spending more than 11 years with Aon Hewitt. He has more than 20 years of actuarial experience.
Experience
Erik has been involved in various aspects of pension and retiree medical work for both public and private sector retirement plans. These aspects include actuarial valuations, creating benefit calculators for defined benefit plans, and performing special cost studies. His experience also includes working with the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation (PBGC) to calculate benefits and create benefit statements for terminated pension plans.
He also has experience with managing and reviewing technical calculations of plan liabilities and providing analysis for special actuarial studies. He has been involved in all aspects of actuarial valuations, including reconciling and manipulating data, calculating benefit statements, preparing government filings, and preparing client correspondences and actuarial reports.
Since rejoining Milliman, Erik has been involved with actuarial valuations for OPEB plans sponsored by approximately 100 Virginia entities, most of which were referred to our firm by the Virginia Municipal League/Virginia Association of Counties (VML/VACo).
Some of his other OPEB clients include the Western Virginia Water Authority, the city of Salem (VA), Salem City Schools, Russell County (VA) Public Schools, Washington County (VA) Government and Public Schools, Montgomery County (VA), Montgomery County Public Schools, Seminole County (FL), the city of La Verne (CA), the city of Cerritos (CA), the city of Orange (CA), the city of Vacaville (CA), and the Vacaville Unified School District. His responsibilities include reviewing technical calculations associated with OPEB valuations and also consulting on alternative OPEB plan designs.
Erik has also spoken at Virginia Government Finance Officers Association (VGFOA) conferences as well as regional VGFOA training sessions.
