Yoke is a Consulting Actuary in Milliman’s London office. He is assisting with the internal model business development for the practice. He recently joined the firm in January 2021.
Experience
Yoke has over 10 years of risk and capital modelling experience within the non-life insurance sector. Prior to Milliman, he was a Capital Actuary at AXA XL/XL Catlin for 8.5 years.
Relevant experiences:
- Reviewed and provided opinion on the members FAL calculation for an ongoing dispute between two corporate members at Lloyd’s.
- Led the reparameterisation workstream on operational risk dependency structure for a client’s internal model
- Supported the production of a climate change underwriting portfolio risk assessment tool for ClimateWise to support the net-zero underwriting transition for the insurance industry
- Involved in the modelling workstream of a business plan expansion application for an Irish entity that are using Standard Formula
- Helped with the production of a best practice risk management and governance framework for a UK based communications regulator
- Supporting the quarterly valuation exercise for an ILS fund manager
- Been a key member in successfully developing several Solvency II Internal Capital Models in previous role; Catlin, Lloyd’s Syndicate 2088 (China Re), XL Catlin and AXA XL, including the end to end management of the China Re capital model.
- Assisted in various capital-related regulatory submissions for regulators such as Lloyd’s, BMA and FINMA.
- The module/risk owner of insurance, credit, market and operational risk within the capital model. This included building the methodology to model such risks along with calibration of the parameters.
- Model Validation – validating the outputs of the capital model and incorporating automated checks in line with the Model Validation Guidance from different regulators such as Lloyd’s, PRA, BMA and FINMA.
- Technical Committee – capital and risk representative for the committee overseeing the internal model for Catlin Re Switzerland and XLIS (legal entities within AXA XL).
- Reinsurance Purchase – using the capital model outputs to facilitate the purchase of outwards reinsurance programmes to be aligned with the company’s risk profile and risk appetite.
- Portfolio optimisation – using the capital model outputs to monitor performance for individual lines of business, by setting target loss ratios for the business.
- Own Risk Self-Assessment (ORSA) – providing risk outputs from the capital model into the ORSA report and helping with the reverse stress testing scenarios.
- Risk appetite – assisted in the quarterly review of the risk appetite statements by looking at automatic triggers within the capital model.
- Risk budget and planning – helping with the yearly risk strategy and planning process.
