Joel Wehner
Joel Wehner is a principal and consulting actuary in the Houston office of Milliman. He joined the firm in 2003.
Experience
Joel’s expertise is in the retirement consulting area. He is leader of the Southern region’s retirement practice where he heads the efforts to expand Milliman’s share of the area’s retirement consulting and administration marketplace. His work with clients focuses on design, implementation, funding and ongoing administration of a broad range of qualified and nonqualified retirement programs and retiree medical plans. Having worked in the retirement consulting field since 1980, his extensive experience includes:
- Performing actuarial valuations for defined benefit plans
- Performing cost projections to evaluate future business conditions and their effect on benefit programs
- Participating in retirement and financial planning seminars
- Assisting employers in developing plan design strategies
- Conducting extensive merger and acquisition analyses
- Reviewing plan administration/outsourcing alternatives
Joel is the leader of Milliman’s EB international practice and oversees operations in Europe, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East. Joel leads Milliman’s EB International Oversight Board.
Previously, he was a consulting actuary and practice leader for Buck Consultants in Houston for 13 years. He also spent 10 years with William M. Mercer (eight years as a consulting actuary in Houston and two years as practice leader in Charlotte, NC).
