Roses and thorns: The nuanced landscape of healthcare provider data
As the saying goes, all healthcare is local. In the United States at least, this is due in large part to the diverse array of providers and provider organizations across different local healthcare markets. No two provider organizations are the same, and the landscape is constantly changing as mergers and acquisitions, venture capital funding, and even closures of facilities in some areas reshape the entities involved directly and indirectly in the provision of healthcare.
This whitepaper is the first in a series on provider data and analysis, drawing on Milliman MedInsight’s decades of experience working with provider data of various kinds, including dozens of publicly available sources and hundreds of unique healthcare clients. In this initial paper, we summarize the strengths and shortcomings of the major provider datasets.
