Building a better future
Health and financial well-being have no borders. That’s why we’re committed through our work and partnerships to addressing issues that have a global impact.
Our employees are driving innovation in climate resiliency, breaking barriers for underrepresented people in our industry, and partnering with the United Nations Global Compact. As we strive to protect the health and financial well-being of people everywhere, we remain committed to our mission.
Three Pillars: Our commitment for creating social impact
A spirit of social responsibility has permeated Milliman’s DNA since its founding in 1947. Three pillars represent our commitment:
Our Work
In our client work, we live our mission at its core through projects to design crop insurance that protects Ethiopian farmers from loss of income, closing the inequality gap for women in retirement planning, and developing better coverage for flood insurance.
Our People
We nurture and celebrate our employees through activities, education, mentoring programs, and Employee Resource Groups that promote diversity and inclusion. These efforts help employees grow in their careers and build their connections within our organization. We’re also committed to increasing underrepresented people in our industry through scholarship programs and sponsorships of the International Association of Black Actuaries and the Organization of Latino Actuaries.
Our World
We contribute to communities worldwide through donations, volunteering, and collaboration. For example, Milliman Giving Fund partners with not-for-profit organizations such as the Math Motivators tutoring program. Partnering with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the Milliman Global Actuarial Initiative fosters actuarial expertise in developing countries. And the Milliman Climate Resilience Initiative unites perspectives across industry, government, academic, and not-for-profit sectors to anticipate and measure the most pressing climate risks and drive effective responses.

Transforming communities
United Nations Global Compact
In 2019, Milliman amplified its commitment to social responsibility. We signed on to the United Nations Global Compact, committing to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs) that aim to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure prosperity for all. The UNSDGs are a natural extension of Milliman’s mission to protect the health and financial well-being of people everywhere.
Milliman Giving Fund
The employee- and retiree-funded Milliman Giving Fund amplifies our mission by supporting transformative programs to improve communities’ health, education, and economic development worldwide. We have granted more than $3 million to signature projects and partners in key focus areas. At this time, the Milliman Giving Fund only accepts proposals by request.
Opportunity International – Opportunity Zone
The Milliman Giving fund partners with Opportunity International to fuel economic transformation for impoverished parents and children in Uganda and Colombia. From 2019–2021, we provided a grant to fund an Opportunity Zone in Mityana, Uganda. It combines high-impact education and rural finance programs to create jobs, increase parental incomes, and improve education, helping communities and families build a better future faster. We awarded another grant covering 2022-2024, building on the progress of the Mityana zone and initiating a new one in Cartagena, Colombia.
The Actuarial Foundation – Math Motivators
The free Math Motivators tutoring program pairs lower-income students with volunteer math tutors. Since 2018, the Milliman Giving Fund has helped Math Motivators reach more than 1,000 students annually in 22 states and add virtual tutoring, drop-in centers, expanded grade levels, test prep, multilingual tutoring, and the Money Mentors financial literacy program. Milliman employees and retirees also volunteer as tutors in many cities.
