This article uses publicly available data from CMS to explore the current state of dental benefits offered in Medicare Advantage (MA) plans and the ramifications for insurers and consumers. Part C MA supplemental plans are helping to fill the gap for some recipients. Some plans offer dental coverage to all plan members as a mandatory supplemental benefit in the base premium. In other plans, dental is an optional supplemental benefit. MA plans must weigh the added cost of the benefits against the added value to the consumer.
