Osteoporotic fractures are low-impact bone fractures associated with the weak bones caused by osteoporosis. This report discusses the economic and clinical burden of new osteoporotic fractures that occurred in 2016 among Medicare beneficiaries using information from a large administrative medical claims database.
This report is an update to the September 2019 report, Medicare cost of osteoporotic fractures, to incorporate updated and expanded data on the burden of new osteoporotic fractures among Medicare beneficiaries, including state-by-state impacts which are highlighted in individual state reports.
This paper was commissioned by the National Osteoporosis Foundation.
